People who often have clear ideas of what they would like their garages and workshops to look like and how they want the building to function. Often clients will have photos to show us what they like or there will be a building in the neighbourhood that resembles what they would like. We also have a photo album of garages and workshops that Detailed crews have built over the years and this can help those clients who would like to see all of the available options and haven’t yet locked in on exactly what they want.
The location for the building can often determine many variables such as garage style and dimensions. Usually we start by identifying the number of doors and whether it is to be a one or two storey structure. Standard garage doors are 9’ X 7’ and 16’ X 7’ although we are commonly installing larger doors that measure 10’ X 8’ and 16’ X 8’. Various materials such as wood, metal, vinyl and stone are available for the exterior and often used in combination with each other. Windows, clear or tinted Lexan panels and skylights offer light and ventilation. Garages are often built to complement already existing buildings such as the house so that the building materials for the roof, the rooflines and the exterior walls all resemble each other. Roofs are usually made of steel or plywood and shingles.
Options such as cementing the floor, floor heat, drains, finishing the interior walls, installing a ceiling, heating and ventilation are all addressed. We can provide all of the finishing touches such as landscaping, cupolas, interior and exterior lighting. Common dimensions are 24’ X 32’ and 24’ X 40’ but the possibilities are endless as we have built structures to function as show rooms and mechanical shops for classic cars, snowmobiles, boats, wood working, gardening, equipment storage, games rooms and garages with porches, lofts, offices and apartments.
